In Police Custody

I know this is a song title from the 70's I think it is Marvin Gaye.  I wrote this to remember those who sadly die in Police custody.  I've tried to reference the details of some of the cases I have heard of. Joy Gardener, Ricky Bishop, Roger Sylverster and I 've included the shooting that triggered the riots of 2011 also the Stockwell Shooting.  

Police custody, I believe the Police owe you a duty of care.  Once they have approached you and you are in their custody.  They are responsible for your well being.

If they come for me tonight

would I be ready?

Or would I struggle

Then they make it look like a fight

“They felt threatened”

And had to take my life

Would they bound me like a turkey

With miles of tape

My feet my arms my mouth

Said they didn’t want me to escape

Maybe it would be an assassination

A bullet through a window

Silent and swift

Difficult to prove

Gone so quick

Maybe they would send a swat team

Who would get it all wrong

Assassinate the wrong person

Say they panicked

Had to go, because he was waiting too long

Maybe they will sit on me

Restraining my legs

Five or six of them cutting of my blood supply

My heart would stop

The coroner would say a heart attack

You can’t argue with that

Maybe they would fill my mouth with crack

I will be forced to swallow

So that I could breath

Once in my system

There only one way to leave

They will raid my house

Plant some cash

Drugs money

With all the trappings it brings

I will be draped in gold

Everyone would believe everything

CS gas if I get too rowdy

This one they have to do when I am alone

Not used how it is intended

It ‘s meant to be used in a crowdy

Maybe they will chase me in a car

Then shoot me even though

I am unarmed

Once again claiming

They thought they were in harm

If they should come tonight

Maybe I should just play dead

Mess with their minds

They figure they were too late

Maybe they would take their lives instead
